Coeliac Disease is an intolerance of gluten - one of the proteins that is in grains such as barley, rye, oats and wheat. The gluten means that a group of genes cause an immune response which damages the intestines.

Indistinguishable from normal beer, it was supplied to Harrods for their "Truly British" promotion in Autumn 2005 and was a blue rosette winner for taste at the Chesterfield CAMRA festival February 2006

Feedback from attendees at the Gluten Free Beer festival includes; "Excellent" - "Fabulous beery flavour" - "Twenty out of ten" - "Really good bitter beer".

Celebrating it's 10th anniversary last summer, the family-run brewery in Truro has a great selection of ales, and since opening has won more awards than any other brewery in the South West, including twice Supreme champion of the South West and SIBA UK National Best Bitter Champion of Great Britain.

In August, Truro-based Skinners Brewery chalked up a Cornish first when its Betty Stogs won the Champion Best Bitter of Great Britain award in the 2008 Great British Beer Festival at Earl’s Court.

The happy sequel saw a party of Skinners representatives, including the real-life “Betty”, attend CAMRA’s annual awards lunch at Lord’s, the home of cricket. A framed commemorative certificate and gold rosette were presented to managing director Steve Skinner by CAMRA chair Paula Waters. Mr Skinner said he and all his colleagues were “fantastically honoured” to have their best-selling beer win such prestigious recognition.

The Earl’s Court festival was a double triumph for Skinners, whose Cornish Knocker Ale won bronze in the Golden Ale category. This and Betty Stogs had been competing against thousands of other beers from up and down the country.

Frothingham Best

Frothingham Best

£24.46

A best bitter with a dark amber hue. Crystal Malts provide a depth of flavour while the bitterness is created by English Pilgrim hops. A subtle aroma is noticeable with a slightly dry finish. An ale to complement a robust dish, a hearty stew or casserole.

Origination of the Name. Named after the fore fathers of South Frodingham itself. Some of the earliest records date back to the 13th century when Frothingham as it was known back then was owned by the Frothingham family who took their name from the place. The family held the Frothingham estate until 1625 when it was sold. It was held for a time by the wealthy Hull merchant Sir John Lister, who records show was knighted by Charles I, was twice the mayor of Hull and the MP for the borough. The estate also passed through the hands of William Lister, Bacon Morritt Esq. and the Sykese of Sledmere, before being bought by Mr Joseph Richard Burnham in 1867. In those intervening years the name changed to Frodingham which still stands today. Frothingham Best is our celebration of this little known part of Holderness, but you can be assured this beer is not all froth and no substance in fact far from it!

Stoney Binks

A very quaffable ale which combines well with a traditional salty bar snack of nuts or scratchings, or a pleasant drink alongside a hearty Sunday roast.

Origination of the Name. A local land mark on the Holderness coast. Stoney Binks is a shale bank off the coast of Spurn Point. It has claimed a number vessels over the years and is left exposed at extreme low tides. It is also said to be a source of gravel and stone for the building of the city of Hull many years ago.
